Job Title:                           Data Management & Governance Lead

Our client, a major Bank requires a Data Management and Governance Lead to work within the team that ensures that the Bank is supported in the way it discharges its Regulatory, Information Risk, Data and Controls obligations in an efficient, sustainable and client friendly way.

The Data Management and Governance Lead will:  

- Manage and implement vision and strategy for data management & governance within the Bank`s businesses.
- Direct, facilitate and promote effective data governance & data quality forums across each product area.
- Develop data domains and sub-data domains
- Oversee robust activities to effectively manage tracking, reporting and escalation for data management execution and policy implementation
- Develop a robust stakeholder management approach with data domain owners and their teams to provide value add to the product/business in terms of the data journey
- Manage the establishment of a robust data management & governance framework aligned to the group data management policy and standards and enterprise risk management framework
- Oversee the escalation and reporting of critical risks and issues and at risk milestones to the relevant parties.
- Review and approve detailed plans for data management execution, policy implementation and data domain activation
- Supervise the establishment of a standardised change management process to govern data artefact maintenance
- Identify and review material changes to data artefacts (data lineage, metadata definitions, authoritative data sources and data privacy rules and data records) performed by the data management function, ensuring these follow standardised change management process
- Develop, manage and maintain effective working relationships with senior stakeholders to ensure consistency and alignment
- Oversee daily business area of team activities, including design and execution of data strategy, workload management, monitoring of team performance and continuous development of individuals within the team
- Ensure the production and reporting of timely, accurate, and audit-ready documentation relating to change management and maintenance processes
- Promote comprehensive education in data governance and management - design creative training materials and ensure effective dissemination
- Work with senior management to identify control weaknesses, establish a strong feedback loop, and coordinate communication of all inputs and outputs of data governance forums
- Provide line management and mentoring to junior resources in data management & governance team

The Data Management and Governance Lead will have:  

- Strong Retail, Business or Corporate Banking/SME , Cards and Wealth & investments domain knowledge
- Industry experience in data management functions (and where possible experience in setting up or transforming a Data Management or Governance function)
- Functional experience in metadata management, development of critical data elements and data quality rules
- Excellent understanding of data concepts and experience in data management capabilities including data lineage, data definitions, data quality management, data quality reporting, issue management and issue remediation 
- Experience in shaping and driving scoping and prioritisation discussions where possible specifically in data elements or attributes based on criticality or materiality
- Good understanding of and or experience in other data related capabilities including data architecture, data analytics, data modelling, self-assessment, policy assurance, quality assurance and control testing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Visio, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project
- A proven track record of building strong and effective relationships with senior stakeholders
- Experience working with colleagues spread across multiple global locations with excellent skills in conflict resolution and decision making
- Experience in leading small to medium size teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication and leadership skills
